Boizenburg / Schwerin (dpa) - A man is said to have killed a neighbor and shot at police officers in Boizenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The district court in Schwerin issued an arrest warrant on Friday after the act of the previous evening.
The 42-year-old man was charged with homicide and attempted murder in a crime involving dangerous bodily harm, the Schwerin public prosecutor said.
The German was urgently suspected of stabbing a 41-year-old neighbor with a knife on Thursday evening and killing him. The motive for the deed is unclear. The suspect had said nothing about the events to the police or to the judge.
According to the investigative authorities, the man himself called the police and announced suicide. When the officers arrived, he did not open the apartment door, whereupon the police forcefully entered the apartment in the apartment building. The man then fired several shots at the officials.
According to the police, a 35-year-old officer was hit on the left forearm. The police officer had been operated on. There was no mortal danger, as a police spokeswoman said.
According to the public prosecutor, the gunman later put down the "Walther" brand gun and had himself arrested. He was not injured. Where the man got the gun from and whether he had a gun license was the subject of further investigation. The man was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Boizenburg is located on the Elbe - around 60 kilometers southeast of Hamburg.
