The long-standing middle blocker of VSG Isar-Loisach, Fabian Liemer (28), is in his second season with TSV Mühldorf on the move to the 2nd Bundesliga South - now in his new role as a diagonal attacker.

Wolfratshausen - Fabian Liemer is still very enthusiastic the day after. The volleyball players of TSV Mühldorf won the top regional game against league leaders TSV Eibelstadt 3-2 and now have good cards in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga South. “We played consistently over all five sets. And in front of almost 300 spectators who create the mood, it's really fun, ”reports the diagonal attacker of the Inn residents. The 28-year-old former captain of VSG Isar-Loisach cannot yet judge whether it will be enough for the march in the end: “For the 2nd Bundesliga, a club must have some structure and budget. But we have great people who take care of it with great commitment. At the moment the mood is rather reserved because everyone is very focused. ”

Liemer himself would not have believed that he would be on the net in the third-highest German league. Born in Innsbruck, he spent his entire childhood and youth in Wolfratshausen. "Both parents are sports teachers - you grow up in the hall, so to speak." Father Jürgen then set up a "ball sports group" for children at the BCF. “You could play with all the balls that exist - table tennis, tennis, basket and medicine balls. It was a cool thing for us little ones. ”Liemer first decided on the balls made of felt and leather. For many years he played tennis and handball with the wolves in Farchet. After the first games in the adult area, however, he pulled the ripcord: "I had an injury from handball almost every Monday - it then no longer went together with the advanced sports course at the high school."

At TuS Geretsried he found his love for volleyball, but a short time later moved to Wolfratshausen, where Bernhard Wilhelm had just stomped a young team out of the ground. "I took Stefan Richter with me, and so did my two schoolmates and best friends Dominik Hölzl and Markus Meinl," recalls Liemer. "At that time, the core of today's VSG team came together." A deep friendship developed with the other volleyball players over the years. “At the beginning there wasn't necessarily anything athletic. But it was not so important to all of us, because there was virtually no hierarchy in the team. "

The gang also held during their studies: Liemer and Meinl studied in Erlangen, had a flat share and continued to play volleyball in Farchet at the weekend. "We hardly practiced at the time, which also caused our performance to stagnate a bit." The break came after graduating from university: the middle blocker got a job as a chemical engineer at a group in Burghausen in 2018, "so I got a job there Club looked up from district league ”. He asked about a trial training session at the traditional club TSV Mühldorf and was invited. The date was satisfactory for both parties. “I had never thought that as a district league player I would get my hands on a regional league. I was flattered by that, ”reports the Wolfratshauser. However, the cancellation of his old comrades by the VSG was “very difficult” for him.

The new season started off bumpy because Liemer missed part of the preparation due to vacation. "I only started training shortly before the start." And to his surprise, he was nominated by his new coach, former international Michael Mayer, as a diagonal attacker: "I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this position today. And it was the biggest change for me, also because of the associated back-space attacks. ”But the former Unterhachinger Bundesliga professional had probably recognized that the strengths of the Wolfratshauser were not necessarily brutal smashing but rather solid block work and concentrated field defense.

In the second game, Liemer was allowed onto the field: “We were behind, but I was only given the task of blocking well and creating a good atmosphere. Then the game toppled and we won 3-1. ”From then on, the newcomer was part of the Mühldorf team, who won the championship with a great run with 17 wins and only one defeat. "Of course that was a sensation for the club, even if you had already celebrated many successes in the youth division."

Also in the Third League East, where the opponents are called Deggendorf, Friedberg, Jena, Dachau and MTV Munich, the Inn townspeople started furiously: "We won the first four games 3-0 each." However, he has his position Getting competition, the club has signed the Jamaican Dennis Nelson. "I'm not in the top six, but I get my time," said Liemer, who, at 28, is one of the older players in the young Mühldorf troop with their ten own plants. In any case, the Wolfratshauser is confident that he can make the leap to the 2nd Bundesliga South: “With Tom Brandstetter and Fabian Bartsch, we have two of the best outside grabs in the league. In addition there are Alex Brandstetter as an excellent player and our strong middle blockers. "Although he had not yet thought about how to proceed with an ascent:" But I want to enjoy every training session and every game to play volleyball at this level. It is just fun in this team, they are cool guys across the board. ”However, Liemer does not consider a return impossible:“ The VSG, which has developed very well recently, will always remain my club. ”
