Around 100,000 people get on and off at the Hauptbahnhof station every day - more than at any other U4 / U5 station. The eastern escalators are jamming and the structure for the escalators towards the barrier level at Bahnhofplatz leaves little space on the platform .

The conversion is to create a new platform in the middle of the platform of the U4 / U5, each of which will have an escalator to the east and west . There will also be a second elevator there. The completion of the project should coincide with the commissioning of the second main line, probably in 2028 . The costs are currently estimated at 15 to 20 million euros . "That sounds a lot," says Schöning. "But we are building in the existing building and with ongoing operations." And the building is old. It dates from 1984.
