Germering - Since January there has been more money for city employees. The large-scale allowance corresponds to that of the state capital and ranges from 135 euros for full-time employees in the upper salary groups to 270 euros for the lower-ranked. Trainees get 140 euros and there is also 50 euros for each child. The reason for the city to take over these services was the existing shortage of skilled workers - especially in the day care area.

According to Martin Rattenberger, head of the social welfare office, the non-urban daycare providers have the same problem as the city. As he explained in the main committee, they will probably also have to take over the allowance so as not to risk caregivers migrating.

According to Rattenberger, however, this could lead to the so-called third party sponsors having to increase their visit fees. And the city definitely wants to prevent that. Because the daycare fees in the city are already at a comparatively high level.

Kindergarten officer Eike Höppner had therefore suggested that the city should at least partially take on the allowance for these providers. The main committee now agreed to this without discussion.

The city now pays 75 percent of the allowance if the institution supports meet certain conditions. For one thing, according to Martin Rattenberger, it must be guaranteed that the allowance will actually be paid out. For full-time employees, this is 202 euros per month plus 37.50 euros for children entitled to child benefit. A second condition is that the attendance fees in the non-urban day care centers may only be up to 25 percent higher than those of the urban ones. Both are checked according to Rattenberger.

The agreed regulation means considerable additional costs for the city. Mayor Andreas Haas said in the committee: "It's about a lot of money." In fact, it is around 600,000 euros annually. Because the allowance benefits not only the daycare centers, but also the employees of the midday care at the elementary schools, which is operated by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO).
