(ANSA) - PALERMO, FEBRUARY 21 - 11 people arrested in Palermo by the State Police who are said to be responsible for a racially motivated raid. The agents are carrying out a precautionary measure of house arrest on charges of robbery and injuries, aggravated by racial hatred. The investigation of the Mobile Squad shed light on an episode that occurred a few months ago, when a gang of young men, armed with baseball bats, broke into an ethnic market and attacked the owner and some of his compatriots from Bangladesh. The victims were beaten with kicks and punches and one of them, dragged into the back room of the shop, was also robbed of the ring he wore on his finger. Investigations found that the punitive expedition would take place against a Bengali citizen, caught on the street in an attitude deemed "inappropriate" and that for this reason he had been heavily reproached. The man was attacked with kicks and punches, topped with racial expressions and epithets. The violence then spread to the manager and patrons of the market, also Bengali, where the victim had sought refuge.
