A 43-year-old German mountaineer died Saturday morning in the Mont Blanc massif, after having unscrewed in a very steep snow slope, AFP learned from mountain rescue workers.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. in a corridor located at an altitude of 3000 meters, where the forties was evolving on the rope with his 35-year-old wife. The latter, also of German nationality, was only slightly injured in the shoulder and wrist during this fall. She was transported to Sallanches hospital.

According to the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM), the couple was experienced and resided in Chamonix for the season.
The day was also bereaved in the Alps by the death of a 48-year-old skier whose body was found below a piste in the 7 Laux resort, in Isère. Originally from Haute-Savoie, the man was discovered around 10 am in cardiopulmonary arrest after a report from his family, with whom he was skiing just before the accident.
