Former ELN alias Francisco Galán 2:34 arrested
(CNN Spanish) - The Colombian authorities arrested the former leader of the National Liberation Army (ELN), Gerardo Antonio Bermúdez Sánchez, aka Francisco Galán, in the city of Medellín, department of Antioquia.
The order was issued by a criminal judge of the specialized circuit of the city of Santiago de Cali, in relation to the massive kidnapping of December 17, 2000 at kilometer 18 on the Cali-Buenaventura road, where 64 people were kidnapped in restaurants from the area
Galán, a reinserted guerrilla, even worked as a peace manager during the government of former President Juan Manuel Santos in talks with the ELN that took place in Ecuador and Cuba.

So far, Galán's position and the lawyers who represent him are unknown. On previous occasions, Galán has argued that when the kidnapping of these people occurred at kilometer 18 he was already in prison and has said that he was not part of that mass kidnapping in 2000.
Francisco Galán is known as one of the top leaders in the history of the National Liberation Army, ELN.
