The election campaign has the Gräfelfingen local politics firmly under control and does not stop at the meetings of the local council - including the agenda.

Graefelfing - When the building committee met for a public meeting on Thursday, there was only one item on the agenda: Presentation of the planning considerations for the plots Aubinger Straße 1 (ex-post plot) and Jahnplatz 1.

The redesign of Jahnplatz, including the development of the post office lot, is not a construction site like any other, but has long been a political issue: for the critics of Mayor Uta Wüst, the perceived standstill at this central point in Lochham is one of the evidence of a lack of energy and results at the top of the community. Most recently, the committee dealt with Jahnplatz in June and July 2019. Since then there has been silence - until Thursday, just over three weeks before the election.

Alienated about the agenda item

During the meeting, Florian Ernstberger, himself a candidate for mayor of the citizens' association, promptly asked the question "why now suddenly, just before the election" does this only agenda item appear in the building committee - especially after many months of silence. Marion Appelmann (CSU) also expressed her surprise and was reluctant to see which innovations in the plans justified the debate, which should also remain without a decision.

Mayor Uta Wüst reacted piqued. "Everyone is writing on the flags that Jahnplatz should be something, now I also hope that everyone thinks so," she said.

The interpretations of the current designs presented by architect Ludwig Hölzl were correspondingly different: While Wüst spoke of a “big step”, Ernstberger said that one was “only a small intermediate step further”; there is still a lot to "vote, discuss, decide".

In summer 2019 , a new design for the former post office property was presented.
