Germany was rebuilt after the Second World War around democracy, the social market economy, the guarantee of American security and reconciliation with France. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was the main beneficiary of the collapse of the Soviet Union and globalization, recovering its unity while enjoying a tremendous economic success which made it the leader of the European Union.
A paralyzed and powerless Germany in the face of world changesToday, however, under the guise of economic stability based on full employment and a new record budget surplus of 13.5 billion euros in 2019, the specter of the Weimar Republic is emerging. Angela Merkel will go down in history as the chancellor of the comeback of the extreme right in Germany and the push of illiberal democracy in Europe, political phenomena which she has tremendously accelerated by unilaterally deciding to open borders from his country and the continent to refugees in 2015.
