A 3.5-magnitude "small" earthquake occurred Sunday morning in the Oloron Sainte-Marie sector (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the French Central Seismological Bureau (BCSF) said in a statement. The quake, which occurred at 10:23 a.m., had its epicenter 9 km southeast of this city and 24 km southwest of Pau, according to this press release based on automatic preliminary information.
The firemen of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques told AFP that they had not carried out any intervention Sunday morning in connection with this seismic event. The previous tremor with a magnitude greater than 3.5 within a radius of 20 km from the Sunday epicenter dates back to November 2, located in the Navarrenx sector (3.6), according to the Strasbourg-based BCSF. She had done no damage or been injured. The tremors are nothing exceptional for this Pyrenean region, a seismic zone known as the Alps.
