The CBS survey states: Satisfaction increases as there are more children • 97% feel that their family members appreciate them • And also: What is the desired age to start a family?

Married people are more satisfied with their lives than married, according to Central Bureau of Statistics statistics released Monday for Family Day from the 2018 Social Survey.

At the age of 49-20, it was found that 92% of married and 88% of unmarried were satisfied with their lives. Among those aged 50 and over, 90% of married people are satisfied with their lives compared to 76% of unmarried people.

Among young men and women in their 20s, more than 50% of married respondents are very satisfied with their lives. This compares with more than 40% of unmarried people. At the age of 30 to 49, the rate of very satisfied marriages is more than 40% compared to 30% among the unmarried. At more advanced ages (50 to 74), satisfaction continues to decline. Married with more than 30% and unmarried with more than 20%. While at the age of 75 and over, the satisfaction rate among married people is still more than 30%, among unmarried women it is dropping below 20%.

Of the survey respondents, 97% feel that their family members appreciate them. 84% feel this way and 13% feel it.

Among Jews, 17% believe that a man's desired age for raising a family is up to 24. 39% believe that the appropriate age is between 25 and 29 and 37% believe a man's desired age to have a family is 30 or older. 83% of the ultra-Orthodox believe that it is desirable for a man to start a family by the age of 24. 13% believe that the desired age for a man is 25-29. Among Arabs, 11% believe that their desired age is up to 24. 65% of them believe that the desired age to start a family for a man is 25-29, and 22% believe that the desired age is 30 or older.

Among Jews, 32% believe that the desired age for a woman to have a family is up to 24. Almost half (46%) believe that 25-29 is the desired age, and 16% think a woman is suitable for starting a family aged 30 and over.

Among the ultra-Orthodox, 94% believe that a woman should have a family by the age of 24. 52% of secular people believe that the ideal number of children is three. In contrast, two-thirds of the ultra-Orthodox prefer a family with six or more children.

30% of the population aged 45 and over has the same number of children as the desired number of children. 52% of children are less than desired. Among Jews, the rate of life satisfaction increases as the number of children in the family is higher.

The Social Survey provides information on the adult population in Israel. The survey was conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics across the country during 2018. As part of their survey, approximately 7,450 people aged 20 and over representing approximately 6.5 million were interviewed.
