Zhang Zhujun, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, revealed that of the five newly confirmed cases of new pneumonia, two of them had been to the Fuhui Jingshe Buddhist Hall in North Point, and a total of 6 related to the Buddhist Hall group.

In the 76th confirmed case, the patient was a 57-year-old female patient who lived in Phase I of Hongshan Peninsula. She visited Fuhui Jingshe on January 25 and February 1 to 6. The patient had a sore throat on February 8 and a fever on February 10, and reported that he had visited the Yanghe Hospital on February 12, 13 and 16, and the patient had also been admitted to the Yanghe Hospital. As of February 23, when the patient consulted again, the Sanatorium Hospital called the Health Department and sent them to Ruttonjee Hospital. The patient visited Osaka, Japan from January 26 to January 31 during the incubation period.

In another Buddhist-related case, the 77th patient was a 68-year-old female patient who lived at Li Gong Building in North Point. She visited Fuhui Jingshe from February 1st to 6th and 8th. The patient had a cough since February 19th. On the evening of the 22nd, he heard the appeal from the Department of Health regarding the Buddhist temple. He had called the doctor and consulted a private doctor on the 23rd. The doctor referred her to the Accident and Emergency Department of Queen Mary Hospital. Patients are usually at home and have been to Chunyang Street Market in North Point.

Or go to the Buddhist temple after being sick, and then pass it to other believers

Zhang Zhujun said that the two confirmed cases were not the masters or staff of the Buddhist temple. When the master opened the door to the staff of the Department of Health yesterday (23rd), his temperature was normal and there were no symptoms, and he has been arranged to enter the quarantine center.

The current data show that several confirmed patients had visited the Buddhist temple on February 8, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. According to the authorities' understanding, the Buddhist temple will have a meal distribution ceremony every first and fifteenth day. Volunteers will distribute meals to believers. Volunteers will wear masks. The believers usually first put on incense and ask for a sign, and then they will sign in one room to read the scriptures, and then they will eat together in another room. Zhang Zhujun pointed out that everyone may not wear a mask when eating, and may be sick and spread to other people in the Buddhist hall.

Temporarily contacted 130 people who had visited the Buddhist temple to send 7 to the hospital and 16 to quarantine.

Zhang Zhujun also quoted Yuan Guoyong, a chair professor of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong, saying that the current epidemiological investigation pointed to the source of the disease in the Buddhist temple, and there were some gatherings there, and some cases were not surprising. She also believes that the situation is different from that of Hongmei Building in Cheung Hong Estate, Tsing Yi. At that time, two cases of Kangmei Building had unexplained transmission. Therefore, the design of the building needs to be reviewed. If there are confirmed cases living in Meilun Building, but if they have not been to the Buddhist temple, they need to review the environmental factors.

In the past few days, the Department of Health has called on citizens who have visited Fuhui Jingshe to contact the authorities. Zhang Zhujun acknowledged that because Fuhui Jingshe did not have a register, he could not reach the followers actively, but the Department of Health has now reached by telephone. Of the 130 people who have visited the Buddhist temple, 7 were unwell (including the 77th case) and were taken to the hospital. Another 16 were under quarantine and 107 were under medical supervision.
