In Langenbach the top candidates of the Greens have now presented the program for local elections. One focus: the public space.

Langenbach - The main focal points “public space for everyone”, “media literacy for children” and “free ride for bicycles” were recently explained in more detail by the local association's leading green candidates in the Alten Wirt Langenbach. Christine Dreikorn, Alexandra Postruznik and Susanna List highlighted the major fields of social affairs, digital, ecology and sustainability in their lectures. In their speeches, they repeatedly dealt specifically with how they want to make the first steps possible for implementation in a comparatively small community like Langenbach.

It's just a shame that the district chair of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and moderator of the evening, Verena Juranowitsch, was only able to greet a few listeners in the next room of the old innkeeper. Because under the motto "Shaping the future - because we live here", the leading candidates of the Greens had to offer some plans and food for thought that would certainly have deserved a lively discussion on a larger scale.

Today there is often only space for cars and traffic

Take Christine Dreikorn's comments on the subject of “public space for everyone”: it used to be a “large living room for everyone outdoors” - and today it is often only a place for cars and traffic. Dreikorn showed that cities and municipalities would do well in many fields if society gradually recaptured public space. This affects not only streets and parking areas, but also meeting places within public buildings and facilities.

People would then linger there for personal conversations, which, as Alexandra Postruznik explained in her lecture "Media literacy for children", should continue to be of enormous importance. Because in times of digitization and mobile phone madness, children and young people would come into permanent contact with critical content. It is therefore essential to take the youngsters by the hand at home and in the municipalities and to learn how to deal with the media by practicing and discovering them together. Technical aids such as child-friendly search engines or an Internet driver's license could also promote a sense of responsibility. When dealing with social media, Postruznik recommended that the next generation of surfers asked the constant question before sending the post: "Would you also say so personally to the other person?"

Improve bike infrastructure

In her lecture, Susanna List frankly stated that more in Germany should be put on bicycles as the key to changing traffic. Compared to other EU countries, there is still plenty of upside potential in the Federal Republic. So that this can be raised, the bicycle infrastructure must be significantly improved in all respects. In Langenbach, too, List could imagine a push for cyclists with a real cycle path concept and membership in the AGFK (Working Group for Bicycle-Friendly Municipalities).
