Moscow-Sana

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated the need to eliminate terrorism in the Idlib province, noting that Turkey has not fulfilled its obligations under the Sochi Agreement and must implement it.

Lavrov said during a press conference with his Tajik counterpart, Sirajuddin Mehruddin in Moscow today, that the terrorists of the "Al-Nusra Front" organization, which is listed on the Security Council's list of terrorist entities, are spreading in Idlib and targeting civilians in the neighboring areas, locations of the Syrian army and Hmeimim base, stressing the need to implement and eliminate the Sochi Agreement in Idlib and wherever they are.

"Turkey has not fulfilled its obligations under the Sochi Agreement on Idlib, and it must implement it," Lavrov said.

The Sochi Agreement confirms the necessity to continue combating terrorism in Syria in all its forms and manifestations and is part of the previous agreements on areas of de-escalation that resulted from the Astana track since the beginning of the year 2017 and started mainly from commitment to the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the Syrian territories and their liberation from terrorism and from any illegal foreign military presence .

Lavrov expressed his concern about the support of Western countries, particularly the United States, for organizing the terrorist "Al-Nusra Front" to achieve their geopolitical agendas in Syria, stressing that this matter is totally rejected and that the war on terrorism must be continued in Syria and anywhere in the world.
