The district decision of the reading competition in Erding was rarely so exciting. In the end, Clara Weidenhiller narrowly prevailed over her 15 competitors.

The 61st reading competition of the German book trade showed that children still enjoy reading, even in times of great temptation through electronic media. 14 pupils of the sixth grades, who had already qualified at school level, competed in the district decision in the district office. As the winner, Clara Weidenhiller from Erding can now drive to the district decision.

"You don't have to be excited," Vice District Administrator Jakob Schwimmer said when he greeted the somewhat tense crowd of young readers. And after Ingrid Müller-Hess, head of the city library, briefly explained the course of the competition - three minutes of reading time from an individually selected text, then two minutes from her chosen book "Do not press" by Gernot Gricksch - the exciting struggle began best reading technique, interpretation and text selection.

The six-member jury, which consisted of Gordon Moser, overall winner of the 2008 competition (Moosinning), the former middle school teacher Georgine Schwertfirm, district office spokeswoman Claudia Fiebrandt-Kirmeyer, writer Albert Sigl and the two journalists Wolfgang Sardison and Friedbert Holz (all Erding). In the opposite sense to school grades, they assessed the achievements, whereby slip-ups should not be considered. You owe the understandable excitement.

In fact, the three boys and ten girls did not make it easy for the jury to find an overall winner. The reading performance was close together, only a few points separated the young people. The result was so short that there were two tied winners in the secondary school category: Anna Braun (Taufkirchen) and Marlene Marschall (Erding).

Suzan Gurel (Erding) won the middle schools, Clara Weidenhiller (Erding) was the best high school reader and overall winner. Ultimately, however, all were winners and received a writing set, a book and chocolate from Schwimmer, along with their certificate, and the four school winners also received a book voucher. Felix Vogt from the Korbinian-Aigner-Gymnasium with his guitar sounds provided the musical framework, very atmospheric.

The participants:

Theresa Appelt (Grünbach / Anne-Frank-Gymnasium), Emma Blasig (Velden / Taufkirchen Middle School), Esmeralda Boden (Oberding / Oberding Middle School), Anna Braun (Taufkirchen / Taufkirchen Middle School), Emma Grätz (Dorfen / Dorfen Middle School), Suzan Gurel (Erding / Middle School Altenerding), Emily Höhne (Neuching / Middle School Finsing), Marlene Marschall (Erding / Realschule Heilig Blut), Lenny Roschke (Oberding / Realschule Oberding), Benjamin Schaurer (Erding / Realschule Herzog Tassilo), Emily Wagner (Buchbach / Dorfen High School), Clara Weidenhiller (Erding / Korbinian-Aigner High School) and Till Wenzel (Erding / Lodererplatz Middle School).
