Rottenbuch hopes for subsidies for roundabouts on the main road - the building authority is skeptical

The Rottenbuch town council also dealt with traffic problems in its most recent meeting. However, it is questionable whether there will be a large roundabout at the main B 23 intersection, as decided.

Rottenbuch department head Andreas Lenker from the State Building Office in Weilheim was skeptical in the discussion as to whether the planned roundabout was actually a good solution, especially since it consumed a lot of space. On the one hand, it would be ten times more expensive than a traffic light system at 700,000 euros and would have to be financed mainly by the municipality, on the other hand, according to Lenker, a gyro is not particularly safe for pedestrians and cyclists. "If it is less than 40 meters, there is a risk that cars will simply pierce at high speed," said Lenker. This is precisely what the municipality wants to avoid and slow down the traffic.

Traffic is not enough for a detour

Council members have been concerned with the subject for years. The main problem is the intersection of the state roads to Böbing and Steingaden with the B 23. Even a proposed supermarket in the Postplatz would put an additional strain on the tricky situation there. There will hardly be a bypass for Rottenbuch, said Lenker, "the traffic volume is not enough for that." The only solution: take out the speed on the B 23 route.

The municipal council had basically spoken out in favor of a roundabout and is now looking for sponsors. Mayor Markus Bader thinks of funds from urban development funding in which the municipality participates.

However, the planned new bus stops are a critical issue. The planner would like to do without them and prefer to stop public transport with so-called "bus caps" on the main road. Not every local council is enthusiastic about this; Critics refer to the safety of school children in particular when getting on and off as well as possible traffic jams.

"It's not just about the roundabout, but overall about an urban improvement," said Bader. More concrete planning should now form the basis for a decision that the new local council will probably only make after the local elections.

No colored asphalt for the passage through town

At the meeting, the representative of the building authority presented several color samples for the 2058 state road; it leads through the Rottenbuch monastery ensemble and is not in good condition. This affects the area between the archway and the exit towards Böbing: the roadway has sunk significantly in some areas, and there are large gaps between the individual cobblestones.

The State Building Authority Weilheim, as the load bearer, favors asphalting for several reasons, which would cost around 100,000 euros. "Because pavement is very loud and difficult to maintain when the water is in it," said Lenker. If plasters are used again, the community would have to pay. After a short discussion, the councils unanimously decided not to use colored asphalt.
