When Veronika Lang advises customers in her shop "La Casa" on Pöltnerstraße between plates, cups, thermos flasks and much more, the spirited woman is clearly in her element. Nevertheless, she closes her household goods store forever in the spring. "With a laughing and a crying eye," she says.

Weilheim - Even if the Christmas business 2019 was, according to Lang, the second best in the 21-year history of "La Casa" in Weilheim - a few months later the store with its wide range of household goods will no longer exist. The shop closes at the end of April. As of Wednesday, the clearance sale runs at reduced prices.

According to Veronika Lang, the reason for the closure is a private one: the 65-year-old, who comes from Romania and has lived in Germany for 33 years, simply wants to spend more time with her husband, who is already retired. In the future, she no longer wants to be in the shop. However, this has been the case since 2008, she says. Until then, her husband had run the business that has existed in the heart of Weilheim since 1999.

Lang thinks he already knows what she will miss after the closure of her shop: it is the "nice talks with the customers". "I always tried to give correct advice," explains the well-groomed woman with lively brown eyes. It was important to her to sell people what is really suitable for them.

For example, it happened that Lang, because a customer on the shelf was looking in vain for the glasses he wanted for the latte macchiato, took out her tablet. Shortly afterwards she was able to present a glass on the display that corresponded to the taste of the customer. Lang then simply ordered the glasses they wanted from one of their suppliers - in this case, in France.

According to the 65-year-old, there are various reasons why she was successful with her shop even in times of the Internet. This also included the “right selection” of goods (“I have to praise myself now,” says Lang). Only a few decorative items and porcelain were deliberately included in the range, as these often go out of fashion relatively quickly.

As a child, Veronika Lang helped with the grandmother's mom and pop shop

As a trained accountant, she has the “feeling for numbers” that is important for running a business, says Lang. For the profession applies: "If you do not have this feeling, you are lost." Many stores failed because their owners could not cope with the requirements in terms of "finance".

Lang also got acquainted with the sale early on: in her home country Romania, she helped her grandmother's mom and pop shop as a child - the only one of many grandchildren, as she remembers.

The 65-year-old has noticed a change in her “La Casa” customers: “They shop more consciously than before,” says Lang, pointing out another trend that she noticed in her work: “People cook and bake a lot more than three years ago. "

The attempt to find someone to take over the “La Casa” was unsuccessful, according to Lang. The business will continue to empty out over the next few weeks.

The decision to give up the store. it wasn't easy for her, says the 65-year-old, but she has now passed this difficult phase. She can now look forward to more time with her husband, which should also go into the distance. The couple has a contact point in the USA, where they want to live partially in the future. sts
