(CNN Spanish) - The Brazilian Ministry of Health has confirmed this Wednesday, February 26, the first case of coronavirus in the country.
The patient is a 61-year-old man residing in São Paulo who traveled only for work between February 9 and 21 to the Lombardy region in Northern Italy. He meets with mild symptoms of fever, dry cough, sore throat and stuffy nose, according to Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta.
It is the first case of coronavirus in Latin America.
The state and municipal secretariats of São Paulo are identifying the people with whom the patient has had contact at home, the hospital and the plane in collaboration with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the airline.
The Ministry said it was following all the protocols set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
