In the middle of the ford. This is how Brussels perceives the French economic situation. Like every year, in February, the Commission analyzed the performance of each country in the Union to encourage and sometimes admonish. For the first edition of this “European semesters” exercise under the chairmanship of Ursula von der Leyen, the analysis grid of the Commission's experts has been enriched. Alongside the three dimensions discussed so far - productivity gains, equity and macroeconomic stability - was added "environmental sustainability".

In terms of successes, Brussels points to the resilience of French growth, driven by solid domestic demand. The study does not, of course, include the possible consequences of the spread of the coronavirus. The Commission again congratulates Paris for having tackled the rigidities of its labor market by developing training in particular, by having simplified the country's tax system, improved digital infrastructures
