Coronavirus: a refused cruise ship in Jamaica and Mexico

2020-02-26T22:45:13.057Z

The destinations planned by the MSC Meraviglia in turn refuse to let the ship dock, after a crew member has been quarantined on board.

They are more than 4.5000 passengers on board for a dream cruise in the Caribbean Sea. But since the departure of MSC Meraviglia from Miami, in the United States, this Sunday, the holidays are starting to look like a nightmare. The cause is the epidemic of coronavirus which continues to spread around the world, fueling fears, and the excessively high temperature of one of the crew members.

When this crew member complained, after departure, of fever and body aches, the decision was quickly made to keep him away while treating him. But the news spread and soon, Jamaica, the ship's first stopover, refused to accommodate the boat and its passengers. Authorities in Grand Cayman, the next stop, almost immediately made the same decision, forcing the ship to set sail for Cozumel, Mexico. A port which, in the evening of Wednesday, announced that it revoked the authorization given to the boat to moor there.

A simple flu, according to MSC

MSC Cruises denounces decisions taken "under the effect of fear", indicating that the crew member was diagnosed by the nursing staff ... of a simple seasonal flu. "The crew member is in stable condition, he has received antiviral treatment and medication, no longer has a fever and is soon recovering," said the cruise line.

The gigantic cruise ships have been at the heart of the news since the terrible contagion that occurred on the liner Diamond Princess, in Japan. Nearly 700 cases have now been confirmed and 3 people have died among the passengers.
