They are old. Really old. Biblically old. We found the oldest animals in the Fürstefeldbruck district and talked to them - the owners reveal their secret.

  • Society is aging. The demographic change does not stop at the pets either.
  • Dogs, cats, birds, horses and even farm animals sometimes reach a biblical age.
  • And they are an integral part in the life of masters or mistresses. A visit to the district's oldest elderly critters.

Landkreis - Hannes is currently experiencing its second spring. The Andean Condor man lives in Olchinger Vogelpark. At the moment the old vulture bird is on the Baltic Sea. There he should look after youngsters again in the autumn of his life. That is remarkable. Because Hannes is a whopping 80 years old.

Especially on a love vacation on Timmendorfer Strand. The 80-year-old condor Hannes from the Olchinger Vogelpark is to look after youngsters again.

Sascha Kuchenbaur from Vogelpark has no real explanation why the giant bird is still such a foolish Casanova. In any case, Viagra was not mixed into his food. "But he courts like a boy. Condor Hannes is now allowed to live out his instincts in a bird park on Timmendorfer Strand. There he can have fun with a condor lady half as old. If the project is successful and the two become a couple, they can remain so. "Then they both come to Olching," says Kuchenbaur.

Lisa and Lotte are no longer sent on trips. And the cows , over 20 years old , are no longer interested in reproduction. It's amazing that they could get so old. “Usually cows are bred for performance and not older than seven years,” says Max Baumgarten. The 29-year-old is a zookeeper at the Gnadenhof Gut Streiflach near Germering, where Lisa and Lotte are just allowed to be cattle. Lisa had grown too close to the farmer's wife to whom she belonged to take her to the slaughterhouse. And Lotte was saved from a burning stable.

Animals in Bavaria: Icelandic mare Dad is a Methuselah at 33

As the cows age, there are parallels with the bipeds. "They are calmer, more relaxed, lazier and sleep more," says zoo keeper Baumgarten. And like elderly people, they develop strange quirks from time to time. "Lisa sometimes thinks she is a bull and jumps on other cows," explains Max Baumgarten with a shrug.

Mare Dad is 33 years old and still quite fit thanks to Nina Stross. She still likes to frolic in the pasture.

The Icelandic mare Dad by Nina Stross from Puchheim also has a special quirk. "She is old but doesn't know," says the bookseller about her 33-year-old horse. And so the Icelander is still romping across the pasture like a young mare - if not with the stamina of previous years. At her farm in Malching, Dad is the bedrock. “She was the first hobby horse,” says Stross.

In the Fürstenfeldbruck district: Kater Murmel is 21 years old

Fitness in old age - with mare Dad it is no coincidence. She regularly takes an osteopath under his wing, plus variety, exercise and good nutrition - and then there is the intimate relationship with Wallach Fani, her best friend.

Kater Murmel also has a close friendship with his mistress Ute Viehhauser - and has done so for 21 years. It was thanks to the stubbornness of the hangover that this happened. Because it actually belonged to Ute Viehhauser's daughter. During the first months of Marble's life, she lived temporarily with her mom. The cat did not want to take part in the subsequent move a few streets away.

Ancient bird: Yellow-headed Amazon parrot Lora has been crawling for 50 years

Again and again Murmel ran away from the new address and reappeared in the old homeland. "We then accepted that," says Ute Viehhauser. The hangover is no longer so turbulent today. The cat prefers to lie on his pillow next to the heater - or on Muchens lap and can be crawled vigorously. But the aged tomcat still defends his territory, which is only limited to the garden of the row house. "The other day he chased another cat up the tree," says his owner proudly.

Parrot Lora is a misogynist. Herbert Werner, on the other hand, likes the 50-year-old bird very much.

Parrot Lora hunt is limited to its owner. The yellow-headed Amazon male, over 50 years old, was initially thought to be a female, but then turned out to be a real chauvinist. "He is really hostile to women," say his owners Karina and Herbert Werner from Mittelstetten. This is particularly noticeable for the 75-year-old. While husband Herbert gets a tender toe massage with his beak, Karina Werner often has to quickly get her feet to safety. And the spouses shouldn't be too busy with each other. "He quickly becomes jealous."

Bavaria: Lora and the Werner couple have spent almost their entire life together

Lora has accompanied the Werners for more than half of her life. "We didn't expect that we would have it for so long." They never regretted it. Karina Werner has long since accepted her role. And there are also moments when Lora forgets his rejection of two-legged women - namely when there is food. There are also a few things to consider when caring for the claws, here there are tips not only for Lora.
