As tension mounts between Russians and Turks in the disputed region of Idlib in northwestern Syria, the army of Damascus continues its reconquest of the last province still outside the control of Bashar al-Assad.
Tuesday, thanks once again to Russian air support, the city of Kafranbel was taken over by Damascus. A symbolic city: Kafranbel was one of the first to revolt against Assad in 2011. In the past three days, Damascus has taken over around 20 communities in southern Idlib, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH). In total, in recent weeks, the Syrian regime has been able to recapture almost half of this province, controlled for years by the jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Cham, ex-Syrian branch of al-Qaida, and other groups rebels.

This offensive was accompanied by a barrage of fire on the inhabitants of this region, of which more than 900,000 were thrown on the roads of exile,
