Maria Sharapova and professional tennis, it's over. The 32-year-old Russian champion has announced that she is retiring. Disturbed by recurrent shoulder pain, Sharapova fell to 373rd place in the WTA ranking. A tennis figure in the 2000s and 2010s, the former world No. 1 won five Grand Slam titles, including twice Roland Garros (once the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open). She had been eliminated in the first round at the last Australian Open.
