Super Bowl: a show in defense of inclusion 3:09

(CNN) - Families across the United States gathered on Super Bowl Sunday to see the Kansas City Chiefs fight the San Francisco 49ers, making one of the country's most beloved sporting events a joyful family affair.

Until half time came.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received 1,312 complaints from viewers about the halftime show with pop queens Shakira and Jennifer López.

The singers danced on poles, did 'twerking', belly dance and more than a sexually suggestive gesture.

Some of the complaints, sent to CNN by FCC officials and first obtained by WFAA, come from parents who felt their children were exposed to a "pornographic show." Other adults thought the program encouraged sex trafficking.

Other people were upset because no public warnings were given before the show. In that sense, a spectator said that it was less a musical act than a “performance of a strip club”.

These are some of the complaints:

It is not appropriate for children

Many parents were furious after watching the halftime show with their children. Almost half of the 1,300 complaints mentioned that the show was inappropriate, especially for children.

"Jennifer Lopez's performance at the Super Bowl halftime show was too explicit and completely unacceptable for an event in which families, including children, were watching," said a Utah viewer. "I had to send my children out of the room so they wouldn't be exposed to something they shouldn't have seen."

"My family was very excited to see the Super Bowl that night," a Washington viewer complained. “However, I was not prepared to explain to my 11-year-old daughter why Jennifer Lopez was dressed in so little or why she was still holding her crotch. My daughter asked if she felt sick because she was showing so much skin. ”

“The program was very sexual in nature. I have never seen so many sexual poses outside the porn magazines, ”said a New York viewer. They also complained about the "sexy tongue wiggle" and the "butt jerking."

"What are they teaching young girls?" indicated a viewer from Wisconsin. “Dancing half naked to excite men and then claim #MeToo for harassment? Is it okay to have sexual behavior, shake your bare bottom, expose your crotch and dance on a pole in front of the world?

The 'Me Too' movement (and sex trafficking)

Many complaints mentioned the "Me Too" movement and sex trafficking.

"In our country there has been a boost for women's rights and more opportunities along with the Me Too movement, which is a good thing," said an observer from Ohio. "This brings us back to where women get their value from their sexuality, not their brain / personality, and I don't appreciate it in a family transmission."

“This is not appropriate family entertainment as announced by the Super Bowl. It was terrible! And then see girls joining the show, ”said a Kentucky viewer. “It is not surprising that there is sex trafficking when you call this family entertainment. And where are the women of Me Too? Do you not see hypocrisy? ”

"JLo grabbed his crotch and danced in a strip bar," said a Pennsylvania viewer. “The clothes were barely there! With everything that happens now with the Me Too movement, this is not something that should have been in the primetime of television. ”

"A disgusting show was shown yesterday during the Super Bowl halftime show and I am disgusted by the idea that this was broadcast to so many homes in the United States and possibly around the world," an Oregon viewer said about the show, transmitted by Fox. “Selling sex seems to be work today, despite human trafficking and the Me Too movement. What a shame, Fox. ”

Boycott Pepsi

Many of the complaints included threats to boycott Pepsi. Well, not just Pepsi. They said they planned to boycott the Super Bowl, their part-time shows and even the entire NFL.

"Jennifer Lopez spinning on a stripper pole with her butt and crotch right in front of my eyes, my husband and my children were an affront to women and children and violate their rules," said one person from Tennessee. “I will boycott Pepsi and its products and, unless I can guarantee a decent part-time show next year, we will boycott the Super Bowl.

“It was VERY offensive to me and my family. Together, those who oppose will boycott Pepsi and the NFL if this is acceptable entertainment for their games, ”another Maryland spectator complained.

I am horrified of how a television channel allowed such an unpleasant display of the degradation of women and basically a porn program during family hours, ”said a New Jersey viewer. “This leads me to boycott this channel and the NFL. Obviously, both of them lost track of what it is to empower a woman. ”

"I am very offended by the porn show on a supposed family occasion," said another observer. " I'm going to boycott the Super Bowl and especially the vulgar part-time shows that have progressively worsened over the years. ”

“I was one of those who changed the channel as soon as I saw what the show was about. Fox and the NFL should be responsible for this. However, it is one more reason to boycott the NFL again, ”a person from Texas complained.

Super Bowl LIV averaged 102 million viewers on several channels and streaming platforms, according to Fox. So, while less than a thousand percent of viewers had something wrong to say about the show, the complaints were categorical, and it is safe to say that Some people were quite angry.
