The designated ambassador to UNESCO, Fernando "Pino" Solanas , defended on Tuesday the policy of increases to retirees carried out by the government of Alberto Fernández and explained that "the concept is to provide the wealthiest sectors."

In an interview with Infobae, the former senator and 84-year-old filmmaker explained: "There are retirees who earn several times more than a senator. They take that to confuse the population and say that all retirees have their money lowered. Lie" .

"This government has a real commitment to the great majorities and has put the priority on those who have less . Its first major measure of government was the movement around fighting hunger," he said.

Last week, the Government published in the Official Gazette the decree on increases in retirement and family allowances.

As announced, the rise in retirement will be 2.3% of the value accrued in February, plus a fixed amount of $ 1,500. Meanwhile, family allowances will have an increase of 13% over the amounts and ranges in force.

Since the opposition, this measure of the Government is strongly criticized by considering it as an "adjustment" to retirees and a setback for having repealed the Mobility Law passed by Mauricio Macri in 2017.

On his new position as an ambassador to UNESCO, Solanas said: "Many have asked why I go to UNESCO as if I were an expert in cows or a chemist. I have been active in culture for 50 years and have already participated in major debates of the UNESCO".

On the other hand, he asked that the differences be treated carefully in the ruling party since he considers that "when that goes out, it is to feed those who want to discredit".

"We are facing a broad government, of progressive, plural vocation, of national unity. It has only been 60 days or 70 days. We are very wrongly mistaken if we enter to put sticks on the wheel," he said.

Among other issues, the former senator reiterated his support for the project to legalize abortion and said: "This year the law has to go out."
