Illegal parking can be seen everywhere for months, and some members of the Legislative Council have questioned that due to public activities, the police need to mobilize a large number of staff, which will affect the fight against illegal parking. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Chen Fanjin (26th), responded in writing to the question, stating that the Police Force issued a total of about 1.42 million notices of fixed parking fines commonly known as "beef jerky" last year, compared with 2.02 million the previous year. Zhang fell nearly 30% year-on-year. He mentioned that since June last year, the number of law enforcement figures in the second half of last year fell year-on-year in the face of violent demonstrators in the various districts of Hong Kong.

However, he pointed out that the social atmosphere has moderated recently, and all police districts in Hong Kong have re-deployed manpower to strengthen law enforcement. The number of traffic law enforcement figures in December last year has picked up.

Chen Fan pointed out that since June last year, the police have been doing their utmost in the face of violent protesters wreaking havoc in many districts in Hong Kong. He acknowledged that the number of law enforcement officers in the second half of last year fell year-on-year. (Profile picture)

According to the documents submitted by the Transport Bureau, the Police Department received 198,000 and 220,000 complaints of traffic congestion and parking violations last year and the previous year, respectively. As for the number of law enforcement figures, 1.42 million "beef jerky" were issued last year, compared with 2.02 million in the previous year, which is a year-on-year decrease of about 600,000, a drop of 29.7%. If calculated based on the "minimum consumption" of 320 yuan per beef jerky, the estimated treasury income would decrease by 192 million yuan.

Only 60,000 beef jerky was issued last August to November

Divided by month, the number of beef jerky issued in the first half of last year was similar to that of the previous year. However, since the anti-revision demonstration wave in June last year, the situation of "beef jerky" issued by the police has sharply decreased. A total of 160,000 "beef jerky" were issued, which fell to 100,000 last year. The law enforcement figures from August to November of the previous year hovered from 162,000 to 179,000 cases, a decrease of 170% compared with about 60,000 cases last year.

Chen Fan said that the police will consider the manpower distribution, resource allocation, and traffic conditions of the overall front-line law enforcement officers in individual police districts, and deploy appropriate staffing according to actual circumstances to strengthen illegal parking enforcement. If the public finds that there is a serious illegal parking situation on some roads, which may cause traffic jams, they can notify the police and the police will take action as soon as possible.

He mentioned that the police have been very concerned about illegal parking conditions, and will use publicity and education to change the bad behavior of road users blocking traffic, and patrol and enforce law to combat illegal parking conditions.
