A guidance system, additional parking spaces and a bike path from Urfeld to Walchensee: these are some important points in the new Walchensee concept

Kochel am See / Walchensee - Work on the Walchensee concept has picked up speed. In addition to the first figures of a traffic analysis, further steps were worked out during a top-level meeting with Secretary of State Gerhard Eck, which should be implemented in a timely manner, reported Thomas Holz in the most recent meeting of the town council. According to the Mayor of Koch, a parking guidance system is therefore being planned. This is possible because the Bavarian State Forests want to install a magnetic pickup system on the toll road on the southern bank of the Walchensee at their own expense. "This way we know at any time how many cars are in the area on nice days," said Holz.

This electronic counting could support the control of stationary traffic on peak days. If there are more cars in the area than there are parking spaces, one has to talk about a temporary passage ban.

The state forest plans also provide for additional parking spaces in the area of the toll booths. The control booths, where the toll is collected, are to be relocated further towards the lake in both Jachenau and Einsiedl. This could prevent backlogs, for example on federal road 11. The toll booths should also be placed in the middle of the street in order to speed up the payment process.

They are also considering restricted alternative parking spaces, for example at the former night parking lot in Jachenau. For this, however, the detailed building applications would first have to be submitted. It is clear to everyone that “we are in a very sensitive area”. The nature conservation examination that is necessary in any case "should probably take a long time".

According to Holz, there are also first tests for another committed project: a combined foot and cycle path is to be built between Urfeld and Walchensee. This would ensure greater safety for the many cyclists on the lakeshore and would lead to a gap in the cycle path on Lake Walchensee. "The construction of a cycle path is not out of the question," said Holz. But the costs are likely to be in a dimension "that slow down the realization soon". The necessary widening of the quayside is only possible in many narrow places next to the rocks with retaining walls and post structures.

Everything about local elections in Tölzer Land

Thomas Holz hopes for short-term improvements by hiring the Walchensee rangers. Their use is secured with the conceivably tight decision for the district budget 2020. The Kochler CSU mayor had not voted in the district council meeting last week with his group who wanted to reject the budget (we reported). According to Holz, there are already the first unsolicited applications for the Walchensee rangers.
