Charleston, South Carolina (CNN) - Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren said it would not be set aside before the Democratic convention if none of its presidential rivals reaches the number of delegates needed to get the party's candidacy before that date .

He was the most important holder in a night marathon of the citizen forums in South Carolina. For four hours, former Vice President Joe Biden showed his ability to make deep connections about faith. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave his clearest answer so far on police surveillance. And Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar broadened her definition of the Midwest.

The candidates also talked about the management of the coronavirus by President Donald Trump.

Here are five conclusions from the second night of the CNN citizen forums in South Carolina:

Warren is ready to appear at the convention

Warren said he is willing to take his presidential campaign to the convention this mid-year if none of the candidates is left with the victory of a majority of delegates during the primary.

According to the rules of the party, if none of the candidates reaches that number, the superdelegates Democrats, who are not elected, could vote on a second ballot. That could create an awkward, and potentially controversial, fight when applicants compete to win over those independent delegates.

When a member of the audience asked him why the person who gets the most votes should not receive the candidacy, Warren said the rules set a higher bar, and that he would be willing to fight until the end.

He also suggested that Bernie Sanders' argument that an applicant with a plurality should be declared a candidate was inconsistent with what his campaign publicly argued in 2016, when he was losing to Hillary Clinton. Then, the Sanders campaign argued that an applicant who won the majority of the delegates should not necessarily win the candidacy if he does not reach the majority.

After that primary, in which the superdelegates overwhelmingly backed Clinton, Sanders and others reached an agreement to dilute their power. Unlike four years ago, they can only vote on a second vote in 2020.

“The way I see this is that you write the rules before knowing where everyone is. And then you stay with those rules. So for me, Bernie had a great influence in writing these rules. I didn't write them, ”said Warren.

Biden shows his humanity

Biden reminded voters on Wednesday what made him a beloved figure in the Democratic Party.

Biden, with tears in his eyes, connected with a pastor whose wife was killed in the shooting in the Charleston church in 2015 by reflecting on the repeated tragedies that have affected his life, including the death of his wife and daughter in 1972 and the death of his son Beau in 2015.

“I know what it is like to lose the family. And my heart is with you, ”Biden said, his eyes full of tears.

The response showed Biden's ability to connect with voters emotionally, a skill that even the fiercest critics of the former vice president often praise.

Biden recalled how he returned to the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the site of the shooting that killed nine people in 2015, the Sunday after the shooting "because I had just lost my son and wanted some hope."

"I don't know how he treated him, reverend, but the way I could deal when my wife was murdered and my daughter was killed and my son died, I could only deal with this by realizing that they are part of my being," Biden said. "My son, Beau, was my soul."

South Carolina is central to the Biden campaign and needs a good presentation here to boost its campaign.

But on Wednesday night, Biden's response was more than electoral politics: it was the former vice president's ability to show empathy for another human being and his power to overcome personal tragedy.

Bloomberg finds its rhythm in the format of citizen forums

Bloomberg's first two debates were difficult, but on the forum stage on Wednesday night, he looked more comfortable.

The former mayor of New York gave his clearest answer so far on the police surveillance he implemented during his time in office.

“We just did it too much and stopped many innocent people who had no weapons. And it was my mistake, and I apologized for it, ”said Bloomberg.

He also criticized Sanders for the only problem in which Bloomberg was more left than Sanders was in the early 1990s: gun control.

He said of Sanders' former opposition to the Brady Law, "if that is not in the pocket of the NRA, I don't know what it is."

Klobuchar expands the meaning of the Midwest

Klobuchar's central argument is his ability to choose in the Midwest, where he crosses into Senate races in a battlefield state and believes he could reverse the 2016 Democratic losses.

But a South Carolina voter, feeling excluded, pressured her about whether that tone of the Midwest would isolate the coasts.

Klobuchar said he actually defines the Midwest as "the states that feel they have been left behind in terms of focus on the 2016 elections."

"It would include states like South Carolina, and my plan is actually to build a beautiful blue wall of Democratic votes in this coalition of independent and moderate Republicans in states like South Carolina, and make Donald Trump pay for it," he said.

Klobuchar regularly promotes connections with the Midwest, arguing that his "courage" and "determination" come from his education in Minnesota.

Applicants condemn Trump's response to the coronavirus

The four aspiring Democrats criticized Trump's response to the spread of the coronavirus on Wednesday night, especially the fact that Vice President Mike Pence will now lead the administration's efforts.

Klobuchar said he would "put a medical professional in charge."

"I think we want to make sure everything is done in the right way and that is the job of Congress to carry out supervision," he added.

Warren announced that he would use the border wall funds to combat the coronavirus and mentioned that Pence, as governor of Indiana, hesitated to give the green light to a needle exchange program designed to stop the spread of HIV in a rural Indiana county, contributing to the spread of the outbreak and at least 200 people were infected.

“Keep in mind that this vice president has dealt with a public health emergency before, in Indiana. And what was your approach? Put the policy on science and let a serious virus expand in its state and cost people their lives, ”he said.

Biden lamented the fact that the United States has no experts in China, and the fact that Trump is now "on the same page as the scientists."

And Bloomberg, after being informed that Pence was leading the charge, sarcastically said: "I feel so much better."

"The conclusion," he continued, "is that we are not prepared for such things."
