Athlete Braian Toledo died from the trauma he suffered after crashing his motorcycle against a donkey's back in the Buenos Aires town of Marcos Paz, according to the first data released by the autopsy, judicial sources reported Thursday.

The pre report specified "cervical trauma with tear, vertebral fracture at the level of fourth and fifth cervical vertebra, severe closed chest trauma, multiple rib fractures, right ventricular laceration and right pulmonary contusion."

In addition, from the press office of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Mercedes, they also reported, according to the Telam agency that Braian "wore a helmet", that the motorcycle was a "black Royal Enfield" (and not a BMW as it had transcended initially), and that the donkey's back "is marked, painted and in an illuminated area".

The accident, they added, occurred Wednesday night around 11 p.m. on Provincial Route 40 and at the intersection with Monteagudo Street in his hometown, Marcos Paz.

After the fact, there were no braking marks on the asphalt, which strengthens the theory that Toledo was unaware of the existence of the donkey's loin, which was installed just a few weeks ago, and went through it "at high speed."

The athlete was transferred to the municipal hospital Héctor D'Agnillo, which he already arrived without vital signs.

The cause to investigate the fact was in the Fiscal Instruction Unit (UFI) 3 of Mercedes, by Pedro Illanes, and the autopsy on the athlete's body was performed in the morgue of Chivilcoy.

Toledo, 26, who gained notoriety by winning the gold medal at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games in javelin throwing, was preparing to seek the qualification to the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, after having been in London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016, where he was a finalist.
