The United Kingdom threatened Thursday to withdraw from June trade negotiations with the European Union on post-Brexit relations, which are expected to last until the end of the year, for lack of serious prospects of agreement.

In its negotiating mandate with the EU, the government says it "hopes" that "the main lines of an agreement" will be established by June. "If this is not the case (...), the government will have to decide whether the attention of the United Kingdom should move away from the negotiations and focus on continuing preparations" for an exit from the EU without agreement on December 31.
