Since mid-February there has been a change in the fee schedule for veterinarians. If you need medical help outside of the regular veterinary consultation hours, it will now be more expensive.

Bad Tölz - you are the dearest and most loyal companion of man. But if dogs, cats, etc. are not doing well, medical help is often required. In an emergency, it has to be quick, and not just when the vets are in regular consultation. There is therefore an emergency service at night or on public holidays. If it approaches, it will now be more expensive. The reason: an innovation in the fee schedule for veterinarians. In an interview, Ulrike Vögele, a small veterinarian on behalf of the veterinary practices, explains Dr. Andrea Wolf Lenggries, Thorsten Bönsch Greiling, Michael Binder Bad Tölz / Bichl and Dr. Trixi Hollwich Bad Tölz - what the changes are all about.

Ms Vögele, how many emergencies are there on average per month in the district?

I go to the practice about ten times a month at night, on Saturday afternoons or on Sundays because of an emergency. My emergency phone tears me out of my free time more often. Some pet owners also contact one of the veterinary clinics.

What will the new fee schedule for pet owners change?

The animal keeper must pay a flat-rate emergency service fee of 50 euros per mission. Then there are the treatment costs. These must be at least twice the rate and can be calculated up to four times the fee schedule. In general, veterinarians are subject to VAT, which means another 19 percent.

Do you find the changes justified?

They are absolutely necessary in order to maintain an emergency service in the future. We are torn from our free time or from our sleep at any time of the day or night, we leave everything behind to take care of us. Clinics must be reachable 24 hours a day, employees receive surcharges for night, Sunday and holiday work, on-call duty must be paid. These higher costs must also be generated. More and more clinics are becoming specialist practices because they can no longer provide the staff for the 24-hour emergency service.
