Hamburg (dpa) - The prices for heating oil fell sharply on Thursday and reached their lowest level since October 2017.

The measurement technology manufacturer Tecson reported on its website a nationwide average price of 57 euros for 100 liters of heating oil (with a purchase of 3000 liters, including VAT). At the beginning of the year, consumers had to pay more than 70 euros for a short time.

The background to the price slide is the developments on the crude oil market, which is declining sharply due to the spread of the new corona virus and the associated production restrictions in China. The North Sea variety Brent lost more than two percent on Thursday alone and was trading below $ 52 for a barrel (159 liters). This also corresponds to the price levels that were last listed in autumn 2017.
