Khawaja, a member of the BNC and a former Palestinian liberation activist in the past, serves as a member of the Council of Islamic National-Palestinian Forces. Since 1983, Khawaja has been arrested 7 times for his involvement in terrorist acts. His last imprisonment expired in 2016, when he was sentenced to one year in prison for his "hostile entity" ties.
