There are two new advisory centers in the district of Erding. The district is thus expanding inclusion at primary and secondary schools.

County - There are students who could do much more than what they show in class. For a variety of reasons, they cannot tap their potential - for example, because of problems in the family, bullying, AD (H) S or dyslexia. These pupils are already being helped in many ways in the district of Erding. The school office is now also focusing on bundled help: with the two new school advice centers Erding West in Oberding and Erding East in Dorfen, which have now been inaugurated.

Locations in Oberding and at the elementary school Dorfen Nord

So far, every school in the district has a school psychologist and a counselor as a contact person. In the future, they will work closely together as a tandem, bundled at two locations. When asked by our newspaper, Sylvia Fratton-Meusel explains that this should improve coordination, consultation and the availability of the specialists. She heads the Erding West school advice center, which has several rooms opposite the Oberdinger Kindergarten. Containers have been specially built for the Erding Ost center on the grounds of the Dorfen Nord elementary school. The leader is Andrea Kugi, a consultant.

Three to four psychologists are active in each counseling center. They shed light on pedagogical-psychological aspects such as bullying or learning difficulties. The talks are confidential, said Fratton-Meusel, a school psychologist herself. After the diagnosis, for example, the parents can still decide to go to school if necessary. In addition, there are three advisory teachers per location, who take care of transition advice, for example.

Team support is provided for difficult consulting cases

In difficult counseling cases, the team should help, if necessary, additional counseling services such as the Mobile Special Education Service (MsD) are involved. The municipality provides the premises, the staff is paid by the Free State.

It is no coincidence that the Office of Education in the area of primary and secondary schools is now broader with the advice centers: the need for help is great. There are no internal statistics, says Fratton-Meusel. But according to a study, there is also “a high need for support” in the Erdinger area, namely in the areas of school refusal, dyslexia, dyscalculia, fear of school, AD (H) S, bullying, giftedness, depression and social abnormalities. “The school psychologists support both parents and schools here,” says Fratton-Meusel.

The experts also come to the student's school

If the 41 elementary and middle schools in the district are bundled at two locations, is there a risk that help will not be used because the journey to Dorfen or Oberding can be quite long? "So far, that's not a problem," says Fratton-Meusel. “If it is not possible for the parents or pupils to go to the counseling center in individual cases, the counseling is carried out at the school of the pupil,” she assures.

"This is an upgrade for our school location," Oberdings Mayor Bernhard Mücke said in an interview with our newspaper. He spoke just like Dorfen's 2nd Mayor Günther Drobilitsch greeted a school event in the Erdinger district office. The agenda included inclusion work in the district, the latest chapter of which is the advice centers.

Example support and support class

Other inclusive offers were also presented. As a representative example in this report, the support and support class that was introduced for the current school year at the Special Education Center in Dorfen should suffice.

The class currently consists of six students, who are supervised by at least two people from school and youth welfare. Sounds like a lot of staff. "That was not enough in the beginning," said Rector Gabi Schober in the district office. In the beginning, they had their hands full trying to prevent the children from leaving the school premises.

You would actually have a primary or middle school level, but you need special individual support. This is of course a great burden, both for teachers and for parents, and also costly. Worth every euro, however, if you can see what progress the students have already made, says Schober.
