At about 11:36 last night, a unit on the 13th floor of the Jinying Building in Shajiao Village suddenly caught fire. The smoke rolled straight into the air. A large number of residents called the police for help. At least 100 residents fled to a safe place. The fire arrived and rushed through a hose and a team of smoke caps to extinguish the fire. The fire was extinguished after about 21 minutes.
Sources said that at the time, a pair of heads of the family named Huang (48 and 7 years old) and a female neighbor named Zheng (41) were trapped and needed to be rescued by firefighters. When the head of the family was rescued, he was in a coma and was trapped. He was rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatian, but the boy died after being rescued.
