While parties meet elsewhere on Ash Wednesday for a rhetorical exchange of blows, the Greens in Forstern focus on content. It was about the planned care center.

Forstern– You had invited to the delicacy plant on the subject of care center. A topic that at first glance is not necessarily a green one, as mayor candidate Maria Feckl admitted in front of a good 40 interested parties. But a topic that is particularly important to the trained nurse because of her career.

Donald Polzin from the Senior Advisory Board provided information on the status of the care center. As is known, there is a potential operator and there would also be a property. According to Polzin, various contracts are currently being negotiated. If everything goes smoothly, the nursing service could start in the first quarter of 2022. Outpatient and inpatient as well as short-term and day care, assisted living, residential groups and a day café are planned. A total of around 100 care places are planned - all in a private-sector model with an investor.

"What the investor can do, the municipality can do too"

Andreas Krahl, spokesman for nursing policy and spokesman for senior citizens' policy for the green parliamentary group, is a trained nurse and praised the Forsterner plans. Although he warned against taking over the operation of the facility as a municipality, he thought that the municipality should build itself: "What the investor can do, the municipality can do too." Feckl cannot imagine that. However, she advocated having the building built by the investor and then buying it. Because: "From kindergarten to senior center: That is the provision of general interest that belongs to local authorities."

Krahl appealed to those responsible on-site to integrate the entire social space into the concept - from the sponsor to clubs, health care, public transport, trade and local authorities to civic initiatives. The care center must become part of the village. The integration of a daycare center could be a fruitful multi-generation project. Feckl could also imagine to embed rooms of the Volksbildungswerk or for the mother-child group. "Everything is possible if the community has a hand on it," said Feckl and said: "The community should always have an influence, including the occupancy."

Benches as important safety anchors for seniors

This way you also have the financial situation under control, do not have to generate a return and can possibly reduce your own contribution: "I think the holistic approach, care and self-determined aging are more comprehensive than participation in public life and space."

Krahl used an example from Vienna to show that even small building blocks can contribute to this: "No matter where, there is always a bench within sight." These are important safety anchors for many seniors - just like public toilets.

While Krahl recommends WiFi in all rooms of the care center so that the residents can stay in contact with their families, he gave robots a replacement as a caregiver replacement. Assistance robotics in your own four walls, on the other hand, could be a "key to being able to stay at home as long as possible".

Family health care, quasi the "community nurse in a modern guise"

GAL city councilor Ulli Frank-Mayer from Dorfen, who came as a listener, warned against looking too closely at the return at a senior citizens' facility. She described it as a great opportunity for Forsters to be able to build the center in the city and with a good network.

Family health care was also briefly discussed, the "community sister in a modern guise". This specialist not only has a pilot function, but also has an eye on the whole family. Several municipalities could come together here.

Feckl still has a lot of questions, such as what a concrete implementation in the hand of the municipality looks like, or how you can get the neighboring municipalities of Buch, Pastetten, Hohenlinden and Forstinning on board. "It is clear that we need a round table with the neighboring communities - also on family health care," says Feckl.
