And on the severity of the disease. However, the Schindlbeck Clinic is in principle able to also take care of patients infected with the corona virus on site, "of course we do not wish that." Sautner points to clinical hygiene, “We are well advanced there - regardless of the acute wave. We have a very good level of hygiene. ”So far, the western district has been spared. Sautner hopes that this will remain the case.
However, he advises risk patients in the clinic to exercise caution. "You shouldn't shake everyone's hand and wear a mouthguard." This is currently not a mandatory recommendation for healthy people. In this context, Sautner reminds that first the general practitioner should be contacted by phone, who then discusses the further steps with the patient. If the capacities are exhausted, the district's pandemic plan, which is available to every hospital, takes effect. Sautner: "Everyone knows their role" - if the virus should reach the district again.
Managing Directors of Starnberg Clinics avoid crowds themselves
"I believe that we are as well prepared for this as we currently know," confirms Dr. Thomas Weiler, managing director of Starnberger Kliniken-Holding. The clinic in Starnberg has an infection room with a lock. Apart from that, there has been a task force since SARS, which would have held conferences daily since the outbreak of Corona in the district. Weiler himself avoids crowds: "After all, the virus lives from the fact that we sit close together." Either way, he expects a larger wave. "I think something awaits us to an extent that we haven't known for a long time," he says, referring to the number of people infected. The virus is not yet as dangerous as the flu virus, for example. "It is much more infectious and not so easy to identify." But the same applies to Corona: "Basically, the virus does not aim to kill the host. People die because they are weakened for other reasons. "
Current pandemic plans in the Asklepios Clinic
In the Asklepios Clinic in Gauting, the pandemic center in the district with the largest infectious disease department in Bavaria, the pandemic plans are up to date. "We are prepared," assures Beatriz Parente Matschke, consultant for public relations in the pulmonary clinic. The Gautingen hospital is also equipped with a vacuum room, which is necessary for infectious diseases. At the moment, however, no patient had to be cared for, says Beatriz Parente Matschke. At the reception of the clinic, the same basic recommendations apply as for influenza, "cough and sneeze etiquette, hand hygiene apply and you must keep your distance." There is no emergency room in Gauting.
Everything calm so far
The emergency services are also prepared if there are any cases in the Corona district. For weeks now, all employees, including volunteers, have been trained, says Georg Rötzer, Head of Emergency Services at the BRK district association. You have instructions down to the type of disinfectant for vehicles. There are also considerations for bottlenecks in protective masks and the like. So far, however, everything is calm - and hopefully it will remain so.
