New York (CNN Business) - Corona beer is not making any changes to its advertising despite the unfortunate similarity of the name with the coronavirus (Corona beer).

Constellation Brands, which produces some variations of the popular beer, said in a statement that its customers "understand that there is no link between the virus and our business."

"Corona's sales are still very strong and we appreciate the continued support of our fans," Constellation Brands spokeswoman Stephanie McGuane told CNN Business. "Our advertising with Corona is consistent with the campaign we have been running for the past 30 years and is based on a strong consumer sentiment."

The spread of the coronavirus could not have come at a worse time for Constellation, which is spending $ 40 million to launch its new Corona brand alcoholic beverage. Part of the promotion includes a sponsored tweet that has generated criticism for using the phrase "will come soon."

The responses to the tweet say that the ad is "bad taste" and that the brand should "keep a low profile for a few weeks."

Two surveys published this week show that the Corona brand is having a negative impact.

5W Public Relations said that 38% of Americans would not buy Corona "under any circumstances" due to the outbreak, and another 14% said they would not order a Crown in public. The survey covers surveys of 737 beer drinkers in the United States.

In another survey conducted by YouGov, the company found that consumers' intention to buy Corona fell to its lowest level in two years. The survey also showed that Corona's popularity score, a measure that measures favorability, has declined significantly since the beginning of the year.

Online searches for the "corona beer virus" increased in early February, but have since declined.

Constellation Brands shares fell 8% on Thursday, although the entire stock market fell dramatically as fear of the spread of the coronavirus increases. The number of cases increased to 83,577 worldwide on Friday. Almost 3,000 people have died from the virus.
