The World Health Organization expressed concern about the continuous increase in the number of new cases and countries affected by the emerging corona virus, noting that it raised its assessment of the seriousness of its spread and its consequences to a degree "very high" globally.
France Press quoted the director of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Giberis, as telling reporters today that despite the evaluation being raised, "we do not see an indication that the virus spreads easily between individuals, and as long as the situation also has an opportunity to contain the epidemic," considering that the way to do so is to stop the chain of transmission.
He stressed the importance of individuals taking precautionary measures to stop the spread of the virus and said that "our first enemy is not the virus itself, but fear of it or rumors about it and our great strength are the scientific facts, logic and solidarity."
He announced that more than 20 vaccines are under development globally and many treatments are subject to laboratory experiments with results expected in the coming weeks.
And Gabrius yesterday warned that the outbreak had reached a "critical point", calling on countries of the world to redouble efforts to contain its spread effectively.
