The free voters send Markus Landthaler into the race for the Mayor's office in Lenggries. The 50-year-old policeman takes a break on the alp every year.

Lenggries - In real life, Markus Landthaler is the chief police commissioner. As a service group leader, he works in the Tölz inspection. Once a year, the 50-year-old, who runs for free voters in Lenggries as a candidate for mayor, takes a break. Mostly from the beginning of September, Landthaler goes to the Rosssteinalm. There he spent four weeks taking care of the young cattle, doing the chores or sometimes the cheese wheels that ripen in the cellar. Four weeks without internet, without television, only with a lot of peace and quiet, and now and then a chat with a hiker or mountain biker who comes by. "It's just fun," says Landthaler.

If he is elected mayor on March 15, he wants to save this time-out. Four weeks may then no longer be possible, but the 50-year-old does not want to completely do without work on the pasture. Also not because he already promised to take up duty again in the fall at Lichtmess - on this day the servants were previously hired. “The society up there is awesome. Everyone helps each other. That is the nice thing, ”says Landthaler.

The 50-year-old, who has two daughters (16 and 22) with his wife Annett, likes it harmoniously. "Election campaign" - that was not for him. "We don't want to argue, I don't like that." Landthaler had already put it that way at the nomination meeting. "I don't want to speak badly, no defamation. Everyone who applies for an office wants the best for Lenggries. ”He now emphasizes this again in conversation. He only says good things about his three competitors for the mayor's office.

With so much reluctance, the question arises from time to time whether Landthaler really wants to become mayor or whether he simply couldn't do anything else as head of the Free Voters. "If I didn't want it, I wouldn't have let myself be set up," he says, smiling slyly.

Favorite place: Markus Landthaler comes to rest on the Rosssteinalm. He works there for four weeks every year.

Major tasks await the winner of the mayoral election in the 10,000-inhabitant community. "The construction of the nursing home will keep us busy," says Landthaler. It was absolutely the right way for the community to implement the million dollar project itself. So we have it in our hands, ”says the candidate. In any case, he would like to implement an increase in attractiveness for the Isar wave. "For me, this definitely includes a sauna," he is convinced. You don't have to compare yourself to Monte Mare or Trimini. But one or two small saunas - that would be the right thing for him. "You can make it nice somehow."

Another project that he would like to tackle is the construction of the sidewalk in Schlegldorf - knowing that this will be difficult. The property negotiations have recently repeatedly failed due to the obligation to clear and scatter. "But we have to tackle that."

"Get away" monument protection from the barracks

He is reluctant to barrack. The relocation of the building yard and the waterworks to the area is a proposal of the free voters. This would free up commercial space in Anger. But of course the relocation affects only a small part of the huge barracks area. "We have to find the right use up there, one with which our children and grandchildren can still live." It would be important for Landthaler to "get the monument protection up there". That would create completely new perspectives for development. Landthaler does not know whether it is even possible to remove the protection status that exists for a large number of the buildings. However, he generally does not understand why the buildings are worth protecting. “They were built for one purpose in the Nazi era. Why is it classified as a historical monument? It is a meaningless relic. "

In general, Landthaler is enthusiastic about the history of his home village. He collects everything that is old and has to do with Lenggries. "I've been doing this for 25 years," he says. It started with old postcards and historical photos. But old brewery jugs, emergency money and Lenggries travel guides from yesteryear can also be found in his collection today.

For the future of Lenggries, Landthaler particularly wants the place to retain "its village character". "We are not a city. We have to get that. "
