There is a moved neighborhood, there is a devastated family, there is a caravan of relatives trying to cope with the pain. Master disbelief. In Marcos Paz they lost an essential, a supportive neighbor who always had in mind the neighborhood of its origins beyond if he was training in Finland, competing in the Olympic Game or living in the north. The legacy of Braian Toledo, a 26-year-old Argentine athlete who died Wednesday in an accident with his motorcycle, was evidenced by the emotional farewell of his remains.

The procession that included a pumper with the crowns received, three micros that transferred the relatives and the hearse, departed minutes after 10.20 from the family home of Braian and made a special stopover: the little canch of the neighborhood. A paddock with a track around it where the young man took his first steps in the sport. The place was conditioned in the last hours for the tribute. A symbol: the drawer in which they moved Braian's body was wrapped in an Olympic flag.

Rosa Hidalgo, Braian's mother, Ignacio and Debora, her brothers, Sofía, his girlfriend, are the faces of pain during the journey of the coffin. And about 100 people who accompany the family in pain. A caravan of 10 private cars advanced towards the Marcos Paz cemetery. There were also neighbors who went on motorcycles and bicycles but that means present. Many went out to the doors of their houses and applauded to see the pumper with the sirens.

The goodbye to Braian had started on Thursday with an emotional wake in the home of the athlete's family. The Municipality of Marcos Paz arranged there a special operation with the installation of a tent where relatives, neighbors and athletes attended. One of the victim's uncles read a letter from Braian's mother through which he requested respect for the privacy of the family and that the media, cameras and journalists were not less than 100 meters away from the house where the wake was held.

In the farewell were among other prominent figures the president of the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA), Gerardo Werthein, judoca Paula Pareto, the garrochista Germán Chiaraviglio and the former hammer-thrower Jennifer Dahlgren. Also present were representatives of the Ong Arriba Los Pibes, with which the athlete collaborated.

At just 26 years old, Toledo died Wednesday night following an accident with his motorcycle on provincial route 40, a few meters from his family home. The athlete returned to what was his current address, an apartment in the area of the Buenos Aires neighborhood near the facilities of the Cenard, where he trained. There he lived with his partner, sportswoman Sofía Lamarque, sports shooting specialist.

Braian was one of the hopes of Argentine sport for the next Tokyo Olympics. In his ascending career he won the silver medal in javelin throwing at the World Junior Championship in Barcelona in 2012, and participated in the London Olympics the same year. It was also part of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games where it reached the final, an achievement that no Argentine had achieved in the javelin throwing since Ricardo Heber did it in Helsinki 1952.

With the aim of arriving in Tokyo as well as possible, Toledo had been based in Finland for months, where the best specialists in that discipline are historically.
