The Vatican creates a working group for the protection of minors

(CNN Spanish) - The Holy See announced Friday the creation of a working group for the protection of minors.

As reported by the official Vatican media, it will aim to attend Episcopal Conferences, religious institutes and societies of apostolic life.

This working group will prepare and update the guidelines on the protection of minors, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, as well as with the provisions of the current canonical legislation on abuse, according to media of the Vatican.

The working group will have a duration of two years from February 24 and is made up of a coordinator, Andrew Azzopardi, head of the Safeguard Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults of the Ecclesiastical Province of Malta, and some experts in canon law of different nationalities.

The coordinator will report on a quarterly basis on the activities carried out by the group to the General Affairs Substitute of the Vatican Secretariat of State.
