The sports sedan is not yet dead. Despite the objectives of reducing the carbon footprint which require manufacturers to eliminate the most energy-consuming models and in particular their vitamin sedans, Volkswagen has decided to keep in the catalog its Golf GTi, the emblematic model of the family of its successful compact . The eighth installment of the GTI saga is recognizable at first glance. The front bumper accommodates a honeycomb grid housing at each end five LED light points as a fog light.

The edge of the hood above the optics is underlined with a red border which doubles as a light strip when the driver approaches the car with the key in the pocket. The GTI adds black rocker panels. When the doors open, the two digital panels - that of the instrumentation and the touch screen of the infotainment system - of the dashboard light up. The heritage is preserved with the presence of the gear lever knob in the shape of a golf ball and the upholstery in tartan pattern fabric.

The GTI is powered by a 4-cylinder 2-liter turbo with direct petrol injection of 245 hp and 370 Nm of torque. This engine is associated as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox is available as an option. A 15 mm lowered sports chassis, 17-inch tires and red painted brake calipers accompany the GTI's equipment. In addition, the Golf GTI is introducing a new undercarriage control system.
