The government set up a 30 billion yuan "epidemic and anti-epidemic fund" earlier to provide assistance to enterprises and citizens affected by the epidemic, of which 900 million was allocated to increase student allowances this school year, from 2,500 to 3,500 yuan, which is about 90 in Hong Kong. All primary and secondary students can benefit. The director of the Education Bureau, Yang Runxiong, stated on Facebook on the evening of the 29th that the first batch of allowances had been paid and deposited directly into parents' designated bank accounts, hoping to support students to "suspend classes without stopping school." Yang Xu pointed out that because the bureau has to review and approve the applications one by one, it is expected that it will take some time to complete the entire process.

900,000 primary and secondary students benefit

In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus on campus, the Education Bureau announced an extension of the class earlier, and it will resume classes as early as April 20 after the Easter holiday. To support the extra expenses of students studying at home, the authority announced that the student allowance for this school year will be increased from 2,500 to 3,500. It is expected that about 900,000 primary and secondary students will benefit. In terms of supporting schools, the Education Bureau provides an epidemic prevention subsidy ranging from 10,000 to 25,000 yuan for public, direct-funded, private primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Hong Kong. It is expected that 2,200 schools will benefit from this, involving about 42 million yuan.
