Munich - brazen diamond robbery at the Inhorgenta fair. The 65,000 square meters of exhibition space sparkled and sparkled on the weekend of February 14-17 at the Riem exhibition center. For four days, Inhorgenta Munich was the international meeting point for the jewelry, watch and gemstone industries . 26,000 trade visitors came from over 80 countries.
But among all the visitors there were not only dealers interested in jewelry, but also thieves. On Saturday, February 15, previously unknown perpetrators stole a diamond worth several hundred thousand euros from the booth of a German company.
Police: "We assume at least"
First, the crooks stole the key of a showcase by a clever diversion. "We assume at least two offenders ," said police spokesman Ersin Erol. So far, the police have not caught the diamond thieves. After they had stolen the key, the perpetrators returned a few hours later and , at 4:45 p.m. , opened the showcase unnoticed - presumably by another distraction - in which the at least eleven-carat diamond lay alongside other gemstones.
Even though the fair was in full swing and the hall was full of visitors, the scoundrels managed to steal the expensive diamond from the showcase and disappear . Not long afterwards the exhibitors noticed that the diamond was gone. The police questioned the victims the same day at around 5:30 p.m. An immediately initiated search has so far been unsuccessful.
"We are currently evaluating the video recordings of the booth," says Erol. In the course of its investigations, the police hope for help from the population. Anyone who can provide relevant information should contact the Munich Police Headquarters at 089/29100.
