Pensions: did a member say “fuck your mother” in the National Assembly?

Video clip of parliamentary debates suggests insult reported by elected official during pension reform debates

Always a good atmosphere in the National Assembly, on the twelfth day of tense debates on the pension reform bill. Friday evening, some elected officials and activists thought they heard a "mother fuck" from the benches of the hemicycle, while a deputy La France insoumise was speaking. It would actually be another insult attributed to an elected LREM elected and reported, but the reality of which it seems anyway complicated to prove.

On a video extract of a few tens of seconds, which was first shared Friday evening on Twitter by activists close to rebellious France, we see the deputy LFI Caroline Fiat speaking at the podium to make a point of order. "If people come to settle next to us to set a noxious atmosphere, to increase the pressure, to insult us without taking the microphone, that cannot last", she exclaims while addressing the president session, elected MoDem Sylvain Waserman.

A very disturbed debate

Then we hear in the background a female voice saying what looks like a "mother fuck", in the middle of a longer sentence. It would seem that this deputy, whom we do not see in the picture, pronounces precisely: "You said fuck your mother , so that's fine! ".

All my support for @ CarolineFiat54 and all the deputies of the opposition who under the insults and intimidation of #LREM (here note the resounding "fuck your mother" from @DominiqueDavid_) continue to defend the majority of French people who refuse this # reformesdesretraites. pic.twitter.com/kLRP9BqpQz

"I hear the tone rising, I hear a scream behind me, but I do not understand what is said," said Caroline Fiat to the Parisian. The elected LREM Bruno Studer, who we see seated just behind his colleague Insoumise, also claims to have "heard nothing" at the time.

A few seconds later, as evidenced by the written transcript of the debates published on the website of the National Assembly, the deputy LFI Mathilde Panot takes her turn solemnly to make a new point of order. "Just now, a colleague just behind said I piss you off to one of the members of our group. It is not possible to pursue a debate calmly under conditions such as these. It is not possible! Me, I do not accept that we come and sit near our benches to insult us! I do not accept it! ", She exclaims.

I delete the old tweet, after a lot of listening, this is what really comes out, a deputy #LREM would have said "Je t'enmerde" at @ CarolineFiat54 and it is @MathildePanot that we hear on the video. pic.twitter.com/Y0Tf7buTY2

Contacted by Le Parisien, Mathilde Panot confirms that it is she who is misunderstood in the previous extract. Addressing herself during a discussion to the deputy LREM Dominique David, she assures to have said to him "you said I fuck you , then that's fine!" But without mentioning "fuck your mother". Mathilde Panot actually accuses his colleague of the majority of having insulted another elected LFI, Danièle Obono, a few seconds before.

"All this is not at the level of Parliament"

Questioned Friday evening by Le Parisien to find out if she had pronounced "fuck your mother", when she was accused by several activists on Twitter, Dominique David had vigorously denied. “I am distressed by the turn taken by the debate on pensions in recent days. I never said that. I am 57 years old. These insults are not part of my vocabulary. I have enough substantive arguments to discuss without having to go through insults, "she argued. Joined again this Saturday afternoon, it does not take off. "I have not insulted anyone, my arms are falling. She [Mathilde Panot, note] started to yell at me, and I did not understand why, "she said. In the morning, the member was also annoyed on Twitter: "My name is now thrown into the pasture in a video where no one sees or hears me. "

I never imagined that I was talking about myself in this tweet ⤵️
My name is today. thrown in the pasture in a video where no one sees or hears me‼ ️
I am not afraid of pol combat. there is much to say on the merits.
We don't need this type of invective or these (dirty) methods. https://t.co/B7nf025chb

The chairman of the meeting on Friday, the elected MoDem Sylvain Waserman, ensures that "if something is audible, it is noted in the minutes of the meeting", which is not the case with this insult. "The National Assembly is not a playground and all of this is not at the level of Parliament," he laments.

Regarding their positioning near MPs La France insoumise, which was one of the sources of annoyance for the latter, LREM elected officials assume. "It is interesting to observe how they [the rebels, Editor's note] work, how they talk to each other," judges Bruno Studer, for example, while denying any desire to "spy" or "intimidate". If each deputy must in theory respect the stock of places allocated to his parliamentary group, nothing in fact prevents him from placing himself where he wishes when the hemicycle is sparse.
