The cough of the world

2020-02-29T00:00:14.659Z

We have lived for five years in the world of sneezing without a handkerchief, of the invented recipe and of the common neglect of basic hygiene

I thank those who avoid spreading the germs of their sneezes, as well as the few neighbors who try not to infect everyone with their ignorance or arrogance. I celebrate who coughs by covering their mouths and the thousands who walk without having to look at others as traveling contagions and celebrate those who wash their hands before and after, during and at the end of each day as much as hallucinate who gets to embark on the skin of his palms in the middle of the table at lunchtime, above the food and with a worn coin ticket uncertain in his left hand because he has just paid the taxi driver.

Well, I welcome those who, even without panicking, take appropriate precautionary and hygienic measures to mitigate the fear of a new pandemic that seems to obscure all the conspiracy theories so far formulated and I am amazed at the almost instantaneous global ability to return viral the ancestral references to the current coronavirus as cryptic predictions that had been formulated in a novel by Dean Koontz or in the drawings by Asterix and Obelix.

Once again, it seems that evil is always far away until circumstances and time are in charge of reminding us of its ominous closeness and once again it is stressed that everything that seemed implausible or unverifiable becomes invisible to suddenly appear in the saliva with which a traveling companion has just sneezed at us and just as the contagion is unnoticed until the fever grows, so too does the accumulation of gossip and unfounded news, philosophies and false beliefs that enlarge universal ignorance under the already beaten symptomatology of assert everything without verification, give an opinion on everything without reflection or reason or condemn absolutely every effort without the slightest veil the patient expects. We have lived for five years in the world of sneezing without a handkerchief, of the invented recipe and of common laziness in the face of basic hygiene ... And yes, it seems that the script of our universal history has once again entered a chapter that demands reflection and recollection : the paragraphs that demand the sincere acceptance that the world is coughing symptoms of immense ecumenical pain, which could well be incurable.
