The Chinese Foreign Ministry renewed today its condemnation of the flagrant interference of the United States in its internal affairs, especially in Hong Kong under the pretext of defending human rights and freedoms, stressing its rejection of Washington's comments on the existing ruling and judicial independence of Hong Kong.
"We call on the United States to stop supporting the rioters and respect the rule of law in Hong Kong and its judicial independence," Xinhua quoted ministry spokesman Zhao Jian as saying at a press conference.
Zhao made the remarks in response to a statement by the US State Department spokesman in which he expressed "concern about the legal procedures of the Hong Kong police" against some of the rioters.
This statement is the latest in a series of US interventions and policies targeting China, where relations between the two sides have recently witnessed severe tension against the background of Washington's interference in Hong Kong affairs, in addition to US President Donald Trump's fabrication of a trade war with China and imposing duties on Chinese imports and goods in a desperate attempt to pressure Beijing should make illegal trade concessions, which China has responded to with similar measures within its natural right to respond.
