In Italy, the country with the most infected people across Europe, many people panic. The number of infected people is increasing and increasing. There are now 650 people infected (as of February 27).

Corona virus in Germany: food supply - what experts recommend

The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (BKK) gives advice on what foods you have in the house and how you should keep them. It refers to a disaster in general for a period of ten days , but not in particular to the corona virus.

The expert advice is therefore primarily about basic preparation for unforeseen emergency situations, which include natural disasters, for example.

According to this, a person could possibly get by without food for three weeks, but only four days without liquid. In general, we recommend (Source: Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief) :

  • Approx. 14 liters of liquid per person per week . Here are suitable: mineral water, fruit juices, drinks that can be stored for longer.
  • No experiments. There should be a stock of food and beverages that you normally use.
  • Be prepared for a possible power failure and hoard food that can "survive" without cooling .
  • Pay attention to the best before date . All food should be kept longer without cooling.
  • Food cool, dry place and away dark and look for an airtight packaging.
  • Use older foods first.
  • Frozen food is also part of the emergency stock. In the event of a possible power failure, these can be used without any problems. It is advised not to re-freeze food that has been thawed.
  • Consider alternatives such as camping stoves .
  • Special foods should also not be forgotten, for example for diabetics, allergy sufferers or babies.
  • The need for pets should also be covered.
