A detainee from the Brest remand center, who was scheduled to appear before the Finistère assize court on Tuesday for the 2017 murder of a business manager, committed suicide on Sunday March 1 in his cell, according to the prosecution from Brest.

The 56-year-old man was found dead in his cell at 07:15 am Sunday, the Brest public prosecutor Jean-Philippe Récappé told AFP, confirming information from the daily Le Télégramme .
He had been imprisoned on September 10, 2017 at the Brest prison after being indicted for murder, a charge reclassified as murder. He was to be tried from Tuesday.

The victim was a 62-year-old business manager. She had been severely beaten on August 28, 2017 outside her home in Névez. Transported in serious condition to Quimper hospital, she died two days later. The motive for the murder was allegedly linked to a commercial dispute.
The victim managed the Sodibox company which manufactures equipment for samples in medical, animal and food biology. Located in Névez, it employed around 20 people at the time of the events.
